About

Published by Dan S

Marin County may be considered one of the more liberal places in the United States but do not let that distract you from the true nature of this site.

Our goal is to provide analysis of news events and hot political topics that is relatively devoid of left-wing (or right-wing for that matter) rhetoric. Although we will not shy away from an opinionated piece that indicative of the aspirations and fears of our generation. Another goal of this site is to provide commentary on complex international issues in a way that is simple and easy to understand.

We cannot hide the fact that we are registered Democrats who attend UC Berkeley; these elements have shaped our world view. However, we strive for the middle ground whenever possible. On domestic issues and national politics we may be left of center and more often then not we will support Democratic causes, but we will not hesitate to criticize any idea or action put forth by the Democratic Party that is irresponsible.

Responsibility and practicality in politics is what this site is about. Whether it be international affairs or domestic policy responsible governance is of the utmost importance. Basic human rights need to be protected abroad and at home although they cannot be dictated from the bully pulpit. Military force is sometimes necessary, but it must be applied wisely. It was irresponsible to invade Iraq in 2003 but it is equally irresponsible to immediately pull out. Environmentally we need to be more responsible for future generations as current practices cannot be sustainable. Yet, we cannot alienate the business and industrial sectors. At times forceful policies may be necessary, but the ultimate solution has to incorporate business and industry. On immigration we must treat undocumented workers as human beings, but we also need to take into consideration Americans’ fears of unemployment and national security concerns. And on all other domestic issues ranging from healthcare to the economy we must make responsible decisions that go beyond aiding one group. In other words the only lasting solutions to today’s political and social problems are ones that attempt to incorporate all parts of society from Democrats to Republicans, college students to the elderly, rural farmer to big business CEO, and Christian to Muslim to atheist. Incorporation does not necessarily mean compromise; instead it involves bringing people together to support a certain goal or policy that in the long run benefits as close to everyone as possible. This site attempts to navigate through all this to find that ability to compromise.
