A further correction: Russia should not be treated as a super power since it is not one. It’s economy is too weak and even its military might is questionable. However, Russia is a key regional player and still commands a global influence and thus the US should regard it as an important player in the international arena.

The coal dependent utilities are putting their research focus into the mythical “clean coal.” Some say they are looking into geothermal and wind energy, but most of their “clean energy” or “energy of the future” pages involve how to make coal more efficient and “greener.”

McCain’s problem is that he takes credit for things that he didn’t exactly do. The refueling tanker for one was not completely his doing. He did not vote against sending troops to Lebanon; he wasn’t even in Congress yet. Instead he voted against keeping them there at a later date. Then there are the claims that Obama doesn’t support the troops because he withheld funding. He believed that funding should be tied to a withdrawal. Etc etc etc….

Then of course there are his ludicrous statements that aren’t necessarily false but lack strong reasoning. Victory in Iraq for one. There is no victory. His stance toward Russia is bombastic and his League of Democracies would be completely divisive. Secondly, Obama/Biden have been far more substantive than McCain/Palin. Unfortunately the more substantive you become the more likely you are going to “expand the facts.” This is especially true for politicians. These guys don’t spend every waking moment of their life on foreign policy like some analyst in the State Department. When you work in government you realize this.

So yes Biden made a few exaggerations but at least the ideas he proposes aren’t a continuation of the failed Bush diplomacy.

My point is that candidates are bound to make mistakes. McCain makes plenty of mistakes in his area of “expertise” too. Facts are important but most Americans can’t tell the difference between the facts and what the candidates say. Thus the public relies on the media to do fact checking. I am not denying that candidates will exaggerate the facts.

22 mistakes is not misremembering and exaggerating.

So in your opinion, Mr. Political Analyst, as long as the candidates are able to make their incorrect facts ambiguous enough so that they can fly over the typical American’s head, it’s ok? The themes? The themes? What matters to me is that a candidate makes his or her point and backs it up with evidence, not lies that can deceive the typical, stupid American.

Even if these were mistakes, 8 of them involved foreign policy, a subject Biden is supposed to be an expert on.

People like you make me want to cling to my guns and religion even harder.

While Biden had mistakes of his own, McCain/Palin had plenty of his/her too. Lets face it an in hour and a half debate you are bound to misremember a few things or exaggerate a few numbers. However, these “mistakes” usually go right over people’s heads. All that matters are the themes and while some of the facts may be slightly off the themes are correct. This is true for both Obama and McCain or Biden and Palin.
